Breast Lift
in Daytona Beach, FL

Sergio M. Zamora MD, FACS offers breast lift treatments, also known as a mastopexy, for those women who live in Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach and the surrounding communities in Florida who would like perkier breasts.

What Is A Breast Lift?

It’s a fact of life that the force of gravity and the physical demands of motherhood can wreak havoc on your breasts. A breast lift, also known as a breast mastopexy, repositions or “lifts” those breasts that sag or that have become stretched. This sagging will usually be as a result of pregnancy, or it can be due to large weight gains or losses, but fortunately, the mastopexy procedure is effective for women with both large and small breasts, who want to restore the perkiness of youth to their breasts.

Your results obtained with a breast lift are often remarkable, and patients are beyond thrilled and very satisfied with their new look. You can also opt to have your breasts enlarged during your breast lift with a breast implant.

Benefits of a Breast Lift

A surgical procedure called a breast lift, or mastopexy will effectively raise and reshape sagging breasts, a sagging appearance that can easily be brought about by the effects of pregnancy, breastfeeding, and the aging process, all of which can work together to cause your breasts to sag and lose volume. While breast lift procedures do not increase the size of the breasts, they do lift and alter your breast’s appearance, offering you the ability to wear different styles of clothing, restoring the natural and youthful shape of your breasts, and restoring your natural nipple position and appearance.

Who Is The Ideal Candidate For A Breast Lift?

If you find yourself suffering from sagging breasts due to age and gravity, you may be a good candidate for a breast lift. Dr. Zamora is the most thoroughly attentive physician you will ever meet, and yet in spite of his incredible professionalism, he is also able to help keep you fully at ease as you explore your breast lift options. Breast lifts are often done in combination with breast augmentation to achieve the most desirable effect, however, if you are planning on becoming pregnant in the near future, you may want to delay your breast lift until after you’re finished with breastfeeding, as pregnancy can stretch your breast tissue and counteract the benefits of your surgery.

What Do I Need To Do Before A Breast Lift?

To prepare for a breast lift, you may be asked to get lab testing, as well as a medical evaluation. You may need to adjust or discontinue current medications or take certain medications to prepare for the procedure. Some patients will need to get a baseline mammogram, and if you smoke, to stop smoking. Prior to your procedure, do not take aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain herbal supplements, and it’s important to make travel arrangements for someone to drive you to and from your surgery, in addition to arranging for someone to stay with you the first night following your surgery.

What Should I Expect On The Day Of My Breast Lift?

Breast lifts are usually performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure, and the surgery begins by making an incision around the areola and extending it straight down to the crease underneath the breast (a “lollipop” incision). In some cases, the incision also continues along the crease under the breast (an “anchor” incision). The length and extent of the incision depend on the amount of excess skin that needs to be removed, as well as the quality of the skin. If you have only a small amount of sagging in your breast, Dr. Zamora will probably make an incision around the areola. Moderate amounts of sagging will require an incision around the areola, as well as down the front of the breast. The most severe cases will require an incision made around the areola, down the front of the breast, as well as an additional incision in the breast crease. Once the excess skin is removed, the breast tissue is reshaped and lifted, and the remaining skin is tightened as your incisions are closed. The nipple-areola complex is repositioned to a more youthful height and, if necessary, the size of the areola can be reduced. Dressings are applied to your incisions, and a support bra is worn to minimize swelling and to support the breasts as they heal.

The procedure takes approximately two to three hours.

What To Expect After A Breast Lift?

Recovery time after a breast lift with Dr. Zamora is short, and you should be back to work within a week to 10 days and resuming your full routine of regular activities within a month. For most patients, the breast lift procedure is well tolerated with only minor discomfort, including some bruising, soreness, and swelling. You’ll be instructed to wear a surgical bra for a few days following your surgery, and your stitches will be removed gradually within a week or two after your procedure. The initial healing may include some swelling and discomfort at the incision sites. However, any discomfort can be controlled with prescribed oral medication. A return to light and normal activity is possible usually within a few days of your surgery, however, during this time, Dr. Zamora will instruct you to avoid heavy lifting or straining of any kind, as this increases pressure on the breast. Patients usually return to work within one to two weeks. The final results will appear over a few months as the breasts settle into their new shape and position. Incision lines are relatively permanent, but the scars will fade and significantly improve in appearance over time.

Will I Have Scars After Getting A Breast Lift?

Incisions for this procedure are placed around the areola and, at times, on the underside of each breast. During your consultation, Dr. Zamora will discuss the question of scars and his incision strategy for minimizing your post-surgical scars.

Breast Lift FAQs

How long does a breast lift last?

The results of a breast lift will vary from patient to patient. It’s important to remember that having a breast lift does not stop the aging process and that major fluctuations in your weight can change your results. To maintain your desired results for the long-term, we typically recommend wearing a comfortable, supportive bra every day and leading a healthy lifestyle.

How painful is a breast lift?

Your breast lift surgery will not be painful as Dr. Zamora and his team use general anesthesia throughout your procedure. Following your breast lift, Dr. Zamora will provide you with detailed post-operative care instructions to ensure you have a quick and comfortable recovery. Moderate swelling, bruising, and tenderness around your treated areas is normal following a breast lift and typically resolve within a few weeks of your surgery.

Do you lose a cup size with a breast lift?

It’s a popular misconception that you lose a cup size when receiving a breast lift. Unlike a breast reduction that removes excess breast tissue and fat from the breast throughout surgery, a breast lift simply involves removing excess skin and repositioning the nipples of the breast. Following a breast lift, patients may find their bras fit better than before, but they do not actually lose breast volume.

Can I go without a bra after a breast lift?

No, we do not recommend going braless following your breast lift. Immediately after your surgery, Dr. Zamora will provide you with a surgical bra that both supports your breasts while they heal and promotes healthy blood flow. This bra must be worn at all times throughout your recovery period. After Dr. Zamora gives his patients the O.K. to return to wearing a normal bra, it is suggested they find a bra that is both supportive and comfortable to maintain the results of their breast lift.

What age should I get a breast lift?

While there is no perfect age for a breast lift, we typically see women ages 35 to 45 come in considering the procedure. Ideal patients for a breast lift are in good general health, have realistic expectations of their results. Dr. Zamora and his medical team members recommend patients who come in for a breast lift are done having children to maintain their results long-term, since pregnancy and nursing can alter the shape of your breasts.
