IN OUR CLIENTS' OWN WORDS

Who Is The Ideal Candidate For A Breast Augmentation?

Are you looking to enhance the fullness of your breasts? Would you like a more proportionate figure with increased self-confidence? Would you love more sexiness in your cleavage? The best candidates for breast augmentation are women who are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. Or would you like to restore a more normal appearance after having had a mastectomy? If you are unhappy with the size and shape of your breasts, and you are in generally good physical and emotional health, you may be a good candidate for breast augmentation.

What Do I Need To Do Before A Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a straightforward procedure. To prepare for a breast augmentation you may need to adjust or discontinue current medications. Some patients will need to get a baseline mammogram, and if you smoke, to stop smoking. Prior to your procedure, do not take aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain herbal supplements, and it’s important to make travel arrangements for someone to drive you to and from your surgery, in addition to arranging for someone to stay with you the first night following your surgery.

What Should I Expect On The Day Of My Breast Augmentation?

At the outset of your procedure, you will receive a general anesthetic, which will keep you asleep during your entire surgery. A variety of incisions can be used by Dr. Zamora to perform the procedure, including in the lower crease of the breast (inframammary incision), around the lower portion of the areola, or dark-colored skin around the nipple (periareolar incision), in the armpit (transaxillary incision), or under the breast fold (sub-mammary incision). Once the incision has been made, a pocket is created either directly behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or beneath the pectoralis muscle (submuscular) for implant placement. After making the pocket, Dr. Zamora will place the implants directly behind the breast tissue or beneath the pectoral muscle and on top of the chest wall. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water. The saline implant is inserted empty, and once it is in place, it is then filled with saline. . Silicone breast implants are pre-filled with silicone, a substance that mimics human fat, prior to surgery. Finally, the incision is then stitched up once your implant has been correctly placed.

How Long Does It Take To Perform A Breast Augmentation?

Your breast augmentation surgery typically lasts one to two hours, depending on the implants chosen, as well as other factors.

What To Expect After A Breast Augmentation?

Most patients experience some soreness, bruising, and swelling after their surgery. Dr. Zamora can prescribe medication to help you manage any discomfort. In the days following your procedure, you will need to wear a surgical bra, and Dr. Zamora will advise you to avoid any heavy lifting. Most of our patients are able to resume their regular activities, including work, within seven to 10 days after their procedure.

Will I Have Scars After Getting A Breast Augmentation?

Your scars will depend on the type of incision that you and Dr. Zamora choose for your breast augmentation, and during your consultation, Dr. Zamora will discuss his recommended strategy for minimizing scars after getting your breast augmentation.

When Will I See The Results?

As your post-surgical swelling subsides, your results will become fully visible, but you will notice immediate cosmetic benefits immediately after your surgery. Dr. Zamora has performed countless breast augmentation surgeries over the years, and patients have been thrilled with their new, curvier, sexier body contours following the procedure.

What Are Possible Complications Of A Breast Augmentation?

During your breast augmentation consultation with Dr. Zamora, the procedure will be explained in detail, as Dr. Zamora takes all the time necessary to find out about your goals for the surgery, in addition to discussing any possible complications of a breast augmentation procedure. Some patients experience reduced sensation in their nipples after breast augmentation surgery, but this is only temporary, and sensation levels should return to normal once your healing is complete. Dr. Zamora will discuss other possible complications with you during your consultation.

Breast Augmentation FAQs

What is the difference between a breast augmentation and breast implants?
Breast augmentation is the name of the procedure that is performed when breast implants are placed into the breasts. The breast implants are the devices that enhance breast size and shape, which are responsible for delivering your results. While breast augmentation is the general name for the treatment, the use of breast implants can vary significantly depending on your treatment goals. Breast implants offer different materials, shapes and sizes to help you achieve your desired results.
How painful is breast augmentation?
The breast augmentation procedure is performed with general anesthesia, so you can expect a completely painless surgery. The discomfort that is associated with breast augmentation comes after surgery, during the recovery period. During this time, you can expect swelling, bruising and discomfort in the breasts as they heal. In the days immediately following treatment, the use of pain medications is encouraged to manage discomfort. Resting and following other post-operative instructions can also help minimize this pain.
What implants feel the most natural?
Of the two types of breast implants, silicone and saline, silicone implants tend to provide a more natural look and feel. These implants are made with a silicone gel that more closely resembles natural breast tissue. Saline implants have an outer shell made of silicone, but they are inserted empty and then filled with a sterile saltwater solution, which may not feel as natural as silicone implants. Depending on your anatomy Dr. Zamora will make a recommendation best suited for you.
How big is the scar from breast implants?
The size of the scar from breast implants will depend on the location of the incisions, which will also depend on the size and type of implants you receive. The scar may be located around the areola, along the breast crease or in the armpit. If you are concerned about the appearance of scars, you can discuss your options with Dr. Zamora to find a breast augmentation strategy that will provide you with the best results.
How long do breast implants last?
Generally, breast implants can be expected to last at least 10 years, although many breast implants last much longer. Continuing breast self-monitoring is always recommended along with yearly mammogram screening as recommended by your healthcare provider. In other cases, patients may choose to replace their implants on their own schedule to enhance their results over time and maintain their ideal figure.
