What Is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is the term for labia reduction surgery, and it is one of the fastest growing procedures in terms of popularity. In fact, in 2015 over 95,000 labiaplasty procedures were performed, according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The rise in popularity of this procedure, which delivers phenomenal results when it comes to reducing the size of the inner lips or labia minora of the vagina, is empowering and enriching to the quality of life of more and more women who are dissatisfied by their genitalia.

Hormonal changes following childbirth can tremendously alter the female genitalia. More and more women are turning to the benefits of labiaplasty to improve their quality of life and to enhance their self-confidence. There is quite a few different labiaplasty procedures and methods available, depending on the needs and preferences of each patient. If it is the case that your labia minora is stretched out or otherwise elongated this can very well lead to there being a risk of infection or chafing, and in these cases as well, labiaplasty is highly recommended.

Benefits of a Labiaplasty

Sexual intimacy and health may be compromised in some women due to embarrassment or discomfort caused by the size of their labia minora. The embarrassment can be due to your appearance or discomfort when sitting, wearing very tight pants, or when wearing a swimsuit. If this sounds like you labiaplasty may very well help to solve these sorts of issues.

The soft tissue of the labia majora can be readily apparent when you are wearing particularly close-fitting clothing or when you are at the beach or the pool. Labiaplasty may also be completely appropriate if there are frequent instances of the labia minora experiencing the sensation of being pinched which results in noticeable discomfort during daily normal activities like bicycle riding or during intercourse. Specific sections of the labia minora, the inside lips of the vulva, are decreased, during a labiaplasty, thus making them smaller than the labia majora, the outer and typically the larger-sized lips.

IN OUR CLIENTS' OWN WORDS

Who Is The Ideal Candidate For A Labiaplasty?

Do you feel self-conscious or even embarrassed due to the size or perhaps the shape of your labia majora? Some women experience discomfort when wearing tight undergarments or during sexual intercourse due to the excessive skin on the labia. It is natural and quite normal as we age that some women begin to suffer from an elongated labia, which can, unfortunately, result in more on-going irritation, some tenderness, and irritating pain during your daily routine movements – not to mention during your more athletic activities. For more and more women, labiaplasty is being performed to reshape the labia for cosmetic reasons, such as correcting asymmetries as the procedure reshapes the labia minora in adult women whose labia feels or appears to be too long. No matter whether your procedural need is due to pregnancy, childbirth or aging, labiaplasty provides an excellent opportunity for aesthetic vaginal restoration, and it’s important to note that improvements made during your surgical procedure will not interfere with, nor will they complicate any subsequent pregnancies.

How Long Does It Take To Perform A Labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty is a one to two-hour procedure, which makes your inner labia smaller than your labia majora through a procedure in which Dr. Zamora skillfully removes excess tissue, reducing the size of your labia minora and effectively creating vaginal symmetry and delivering impressive aesthetic improvements. Most patients are able to go home within an hour of being moved to the recovery room.

What To Expect After A Labiaplasty?

Following your procedure, you may experience some sensations of numbness that can last for a few days. It is important to be vigilant and careful as well as cautious during your recovery to ensure that your stitches remain intact and undamaged. It is normal to experience mild discomfort and swelling following labiaplasty surgery. The swelling typically subsides within the first two weeks, but minor swelling and irritation may persist for up to six weeks.

We will provide you with detailed instructions for your post-procedural healing and recovery phase so that you are fully prepared when you return home. In general, it is advisable to remain home from work for at least two days and to take precautions to avoid all strenuous activities for several weeks.
