Otoplasty
in Daytona Beach, FL

Your ears are vitally important to both your appearance and your hearing. Sergio M. Zamora MD, FACS offers otoplasty procedures to both men and women who live in Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach and the surrounding communities of Florida. If you or a loved one are unhappy with the size, shape, or position of your ears, otoplasty, or cosmetic ear surgery from Dr. Zamora, may be the perfect solution for you.

What Is Otoplasty?

Your ears can either enhance your facial features or detract from your appearance. Don’t let asymmetries in your ears deter from your other facial features and your winning personality! Many people face the embarrassment of ears that stick out too far from their head, or ears that are way too large in proportion to their head and facial features.

Otoplasty is a personalized procedure from Dr. Zamora that can be performed for cosmetic or reconstructive purposes for individuals of any age. Children are often subject to teasing due to ears that are protruding, out of proportion or oddly shaped. Otoplasty, or ear surgery, is a procedure that corrects the shape, position, symmetry, or proportion of your ears and the goal of otoplasty is to ensure that your ears are proportionate to your face, so that unnecessary attention is not drawn to them.

Benefits of an Otoplasty

Otoplasty, or ear surgery, is the reshaping of your outer ear, or pinna, to improve your appearance or to correct abnormalities. Otoplasty may be used to correct a variety of cosmetic issues involving the ears, including ears that are disproportionate in size, ears that stick out too far or structural defects in the ear caused by genetics or injury, such as overly heavy earrings damaging or tearing the earlobe. Many pleased past patients of Dr. Zamora have reported that the procedure has improved their self-esteem and has helped them to feel more confident in social circumstances such as school.

Who Is The Ideal Candidate For an Otoplasty?

Otoplasty, unlike most other plastic surgery procedures, is frequently performed on children and teens to alleviate the social pressures young people face when their ears attract negative attention, but otoplasty is appropriate for adults as well who have the need for expert ear surgery to correct either cosmetic or functional issues of the ear.

What Do I Need To Do Before an Otoplasty?

Just like any other surgery, it’s important to make preparations for your otoplasty, including preparing your home for your recovery period, arranging for assistance in the first 24 hours after your procedure, and doing the following pre-operative preparations:

  • Have an overall health check-up
  • Complete necessary blood work
  • Discontinue use of aspirin, ibuprofen, and certain vitamins and other supplements two weeks prior to your procedure
  • Cease smoking two weeks prior to your procedure
  • Alter, adjust or discontinue your current daily medications temporarily based on Dr. Zamora’s recommendation

IN OUR CLIENTS' OWN WORDS

What Should I Expect On The Day Of My Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is performed under general anesthesia or sometimes local anesthesia, so the patient stays awake, which eliminates the need for a prolonged hospital stay. Heavier sedation might be implemented for children to ensure that they remain still throughout the entire surgery. Once the patient’s comfort is assured, an incision is placed behind your ear in the natural folds and the cartilage and skin of your ear may be trimmed, sculpted, or reshaped. Internal sutures are used to pin back ears that stick out too far from the head and to help the ear reform during the healing process. When he has achieved the desired shape, Dr. Zamora will put sutures in place and close the incision.

How Long Does It Take To Perform an Otoplasty?

The otoplasty procedure usually takes less than one hour per ear.

What To Expect After an Otoplasty?

For most patients, your recovery process after otoplasty lasts for about a week to 10 days. Some patients may experience mild tenderness, swelling and bruising. Following the cosmetic ear surgery, gauze will be placed over the ears for several days, and you will be advised to wear a soft headband to protect your ears while sleeping. Most patients are able to return to their regular activities within a week, although we recommend you avoid strenuous exercise for several weeks following your procedure.

Will I Have Scars After Getting an Otoplasty?

During those otoplasty procedures where you only want the size of your ears reduced, Dr. Zamora makes an incision at the front, inside of your ear, so the resulting scar cannot be seen. Dissolvable sutures will be put in place, which means that there will be no visible scars after your ears heal. During your consultation, and following his examination of your ears, Dr. Zamora will discuss any additional questions you may have about scars after getting an otoplasty.

When Will I See The Results?

Otoplasty from Dr. Zamora is often used to correct ears that are of a disproportionate size, ears that stick out too far, or structural defects in the ear caused by genetics or injury. The results of your otoplasty procedure will be visible once your recovery from the procedure is complete and all post-operative swelling has subsided.

What Are Possible Complications Of an Otoplasty?

During your otoplasty consultation with Dr. Zamora, the procedure will be explained in detail, as he takes all the time necessary to find out about your goals for the surgery, in addition to discussing any possible complications of an otoplasty procedure.

How Long Will The Results Of an Otoplasty Last?

Otoplasty is a safe and effective procedure that provides relief from the embarrassment of ears that stick out or are too large. The results of your otoplasty will last a lifetime, which is why an otoplasty with Dr. Zamora is such a valuable investment in your current and future happiness, self-confidence, and self-esteem.
